This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for scallnet.org. This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by this website, except where stated otherwise. It will notify you of the following:

    • What information we collect;
    • With whom it is shared;
    • How it can be corrected;
    • How it is secured;
    • How policy changes will be communicated; and
    • How to address concerns over misuse of personal data.

Information Collection, Use, and Sharing

We only collect and have access to information that you voluntarily give us via membership or event registration, email or other direct contact from you. Except for two circumstances, we will not provide this information to any outside parties.

1.  We may provide your name and email address to AALL, the parent organization of SCALL. (If you do not want SCALL to provide that information to AALL, please indicate that on your membership form, or contact us directly.)

2.  By registering for the annual SCALL Institute, you agree to allow us to provide your name, organization and email address (that you use to register for the Institute, join SCALL or AALL, or post on your employer’s website) to the exhibitors and sponsors at that year’s Institute.

Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email about SCALL news and events, or changes to this privacy policy. Please note that SCALL’s email list at Google Groups is a separate email list from the Membership Directory list; if you want to be removed from both mailing lists, please specify that in your communication to us. You can also use the link included in any email we send you to unsubscribe from that list.

Your Access to and Control Over Information

You may opt out of any future contacts from us at any time. You can also do the following at any time by contacting us:

    • See what data we have about you, if any.
    • Change/correct any data we have about you.
    • Have us delete any data we have about you.
    • Express any concern you have about our use of your data.

Security

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.

Notification of Changes

Whenever material changes are made to the privacy notice, we will notify you by email.

Membership Application and Directory

In order to become a member of SCALL, you must first complete a membership application. The application asks you to give certain information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact you about SCALL news, member events and other SCALL-related matters.

Some information you provide in your membership application may be available to other SCALL members via the Membership Directory. (Anyone can access the information in the public part of this website, but only current SCALL members my log in to access the Membership Directory.) You may hide some or all of your information from the Membership Directory by logging in to your account and adjusting your profile privacy settings.

Institute and Event Registration

If you choose to attend the annual SCALL Institute or other SCALL events, we request information from you on our registration form. To register, you must provide contact information (such as name and email address from your registration, SCALL or AALL membership information, or employer’s website). This information is used to process your registration. If we have trouble processing your registration, we’ll use this information to contact you. If you register for the annual SCALL Institute, we will also provide your contact information (name and email address) to the exhibitors and sponsors for that year’s institute.

Grant Application

If you apply for one of the grants that SCALL makes available to our members, we request information from you on the grant application form. To apply, you must provide contact information (such as name and email address) and other information. This information is used to process your application and to inform grant applicants of the results of their applications. If we have trouble processing your application, we’ll also use this information to contact you.

Membership, Event and Institute Payments

If you pay online for your SCALL membership, the SCALL Institute or any of our events, you must provide contact information (such as name and email address) and financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to process your registration. If we have trouble processing your payment, we’ll use this information to contact you.

Cookies

We use “cookies” on this site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. For instance, when we use a cookie to identify you, you may not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our site (such as readership interest in the SCALL Newsletter). Usage of a cookie is not linked to any personally identifiable information on our site. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our site.

Some of our business partners (such as Wild Apricot, the provider of our Membership Directory) may also use cookies on our site. However, we have no access to or control over these cookies.

This web site may contain links to other sites (such as PayPal, Wild Apricot or Event Bee). Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

Surveys

From time to time our site may request information via surveys. Participation in these surveys is voluntary, and you may choose whether to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and email address), and demographic information (such as type of library with which you are affiliated, how long you have been a member of SCALL, etc.). Contact information may be used to notify participants of survey results and/or ask follow-up questions. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of SCALL resources and of this site.

Do-Not-Track Signals

SCALL does not track its website users to provide targeted advertising and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, some third party sites do keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. If you are visiting such sites, you can set the DNT signal on your browser so that third parties know you do not want to be tracked. We may use third-party Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our website.
